National Public Safety Telecommunications Council
National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week (NPSTW) is April 11–17, 2021. NPSTC and communities across the U.S. will pause this week to recognize the "first first responders," who help save lives in times of personal or national crisis. Considering the difficult year telecommunicators and other first responders have had, there is no better time than now to appreciate the hard work and dedication of everyone who works inside an Emergency Communications Center.
National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week (NPSTW) is designated as a time when citizens can thank public safety men and women who respond to emergency calls and dispatch emergency professionals and equipment during times of crisis. Americans can show gratitude to 9-1-1 calltakers, dispatchers, technicians that maintain radio and emergency phone systems, communications staff trainers, communications center personnel, and other public safety telecommunications staff across the country who work tirelessly, often behind the scenes, to help during emergencies.
During the global pandemic that is entering its second year, public safety agencies have experienced unprecedented increases in calls for help. Telecommunicators are answering thousands of 9-1-1 calls and dispatching first responders while also worrying about their own safety and that of their families. Instead of celebrations to mark the occasion, telecommunicators are taking their temperature as they report to work. Instead of unwrapping a gift, they are wiping down their workstations with a sanitizing cloth.
The NPSTC Governing Board, on behalf of the entire public safety community, expresses its thanks and gratitude for the difficult mission that each of you accomplish every day. We support you and are thinking of you during this week of recognition and these difficult time.
