LMR LTE Integration and Interoperability Working Group
Public Safety LMR systems will continue to operate for many years as work advances to finalize worldwide standards to support mission critical voice and as FirstNet builds the nationwide public safety broadband network.
Adoption of LTE mission critical data and voice services will occur across the U.S. as the capabilities are made available and as public safety agencies prepare to migrate to this new technology.  It is quite reasonable to expect that there will be a mix of LMR and LTE technologies in use by local public safety agencies in the same location.  One city may elect to adopt LTE voice services while the adjoining City and the County remain on their existing LMR public safety radio network.
It is important to fully explore the coexistence of, and simultaneous use of, LMR and LTE technologies to determine necessary operational requirements to ensure continued interoperability.
