NPSTC thanks law enforcement, public safety telecommunicators, EMS, fire, trauma surgeons and nurses, and strangers helping strangers in an active shooter situation.  The horrific events that occurred in Las Vegas at the Highway 91 Harvest Music Festival illustrate the worst and the best of humanity.  The shooter indiscriminately killing 59 and wounding over 500 others is obviously the worst, but the best of humanity was exemplified by the bravery of first responders running towards the danger; strangers helping others, in some cases staying at the side of wounded strangers so they would not be alone; and first responders and concert goers speeding the wounded to medical care in ambulances and trucks and cars and taxis.
"I want to thank the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and all of the first responders for their courageous efforts, and for helping to save the lives of so many," President Trump said in the hours after the shooting on Monday.  "The speed with which they acted is miraculous and prevented further loss of life.  To have found the shooter so quickly after the first shots were fired is something for which we will always be thankful and grateful.  It shows what true professionalism is all about."
