PSCR 2020: The Digital Experience | ||||||
For the last decade, the National Institute of Standards and Technology's Public Safety Communications Research Division (PSCR) has hosted an annual Stakeholder Meeting, bringing together public safety, academia, government, and industry professionals to explore the latest in public safety communications research. This year, PSCR 2020 went virtual, allowing online participants to tune into leading experts on topics such as location-based services, data analytics, and user interfaces/user experience. | ||||||
The First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet Authority) was pleased to join this year's conference. Each year, our participation provides a glimpse into the future of public safety technology use and potential technology advances for first responders. Throughout the conference, discussions were focused on ways to cultivate smart solutions to address the communication challenges faced by emergency responders when protecting communities nationwide. | ||||||
One highlight included FirstNet Authority Board Chair Edward Horowitz sitting down with PSCR Division Chief Dereck Orr for a Fireside Chat to discuss the FirstNet Authority's recent innovation efforts for the FirstNet network. They also highlighted the partnership between the FirstNet Authority and PSCR and upcoming opportunities for continued collaboration. | ||||||

When all Eyes Were on Westerville, Ohio, FirstNet Kept First Responders Connected | ||||||
When Otterbein University in Ohio played host to the 2019 Democratic presidential debate, thousands flocked to the City of Westerville to attend. During the event, the Westerville Police Department used FirstNet and drones to capture live, high-definition video and relay it to the emergency operations center, improving situational awareness and decision-making.
